This Lough is located beside Waterville, which is a 10 minute drive from Caherciveen. This is one of the best sea trout fisheries in the country and has excellent runs of fish from May to October. The fish are of better average size than most sea trout fisheries in Ireland, the average size being almost 1½ lbs. Lough Currane also holds some respectable brown trout and fish of ¾ lb are common enough. All of the lakes and rivers in this area are set in magnificent, rather severe mountain scenery. There are several highly experienced guides and ghillies around Cahersiveen, offering saltwater flyfishing for brown trout, sea trout and Salmon in Lough Currane and other local rivers and lakes, as well as superb bass flyfishing. Most ghillies and guides can cater for everyone from beginners looking for a day’s instruction in the basics of flyfishing up to competent anglers looking for tips or to perfect technique.
