Cahersiveen has alot to offer when it comes to fishing. Weather your a fresh water or sea enthusiast then you have come to the right place. Sitting on the South West Coast of Ireland, Cahersiveen looks out to the Atlantic ocean. Where local trawler men will show you the ropes if your a fist timer and seasoned anglers will bring on a trip never to forget if your an experiences angler.
There is an abundance of lakes to choose from with Loch Currane in Waterville just 10km away. The lough is famous for its salmon and Sea trout fly fishing, having a good run of both spring salmon and grilse in addition to regularly producing specimin sea trout with some running to over 10 lb. From June the lake contains a prolific number of smaller sea trout, know locally as 'Juners', analogous to the Scottish Finnock
Lough Curran
This Lough is located beside Waterville, which is a 10 minute drive from Cahersiveen. This is one of the best sea trout fisheries in the country and has excellent runs of fish from May to October. The fish are of better average size than most sea trout fisheries in Ireland, the average size being almost 1½ lbs. Lough Currane also holds some respectable brown trout and fish of ¾ lb are common enough. All of the lakes and rivers in this area are set in magnificent, rather severe mountain scenery. 

There are several highly experienced guides and ghillies around Cahersiveen, offering saltwater flyfishing for brown trout, sea trout and Salmon in Lough Currane and other local rivers and lakes, as well as superb bass flyfishing. Most ghillies and guides can cater for everyone from beginners looking for a day’s instruction in the basics of flyfishing up to competent anglers

Pollock Fishing
Pollock can normally be drifted for over specific grounds and areas. There are several methods including jigging, spinning, pirking, the use of shads and a slow retrieve method using a sand eel or a strip of mackerel. All of these methods are excellent sport using light tackle.
Blue Shark Fishing
The season for this is from July to September when the water temperature has risen. It is best suited to fishing four anglers on board, it can be a long slow day of waiting so be prepared but when the action starts it can be very exciting.

Fishing Grounds
The fishing grounds cover from the lighthouse on Valentia, up east into Kells Bay, North of Valentia along the back of the island down to Bray Head at the end of the island and on the Skelligs and the deep banks which are between 3 and 10 miles from the end of Valentia, or the famous and beautiful Blasket Islands. Operational area is on average 15-20 miles from individual operator’s point of departure.
You do not have to decide what type of fishing you would like to try immediately because it is possible to anchor for part of the day and drift the rest or you can fish all day at anchor or stay drifting all day. Sometimes the weather or the tide will dictate where you can fish or even if fishing is possible and for safety reasons the skipper’s decision is final.
